RECENT TAPE ROUNDUP

This blog has not been very cohesive as of late. If I'm being honest with myself its never been and never will be. I am kinda ok with that.

I wanted to share some tapes I have come across over the past week or so that have been in pretty heavy rotation for me. I am a sucker for independent projects that are able to stay cohesive. These tapes range from old finds of huge artists and new finds from small artists but all of them are impressive and show the wide range of creativity that exists in music.

I sound preachy a lot but if there is one thing that you ever take away from my attitude towards music and the arts I hope that its my strong belief that there is a place for everything.

Kanye West Demo Beat Tape (1997)

I want this to be the beat tape that is referenced on Drive Slow really bad but who knows ("I used to love to play my demo tape when the system yanked, Felt like I was almost signed when the shit got cranked") regardless it is really cool to see the progression of one of the greatest artists the world will ever know. check it out.

Mt. Marcy - Baobab Tree (Blvnt Records)

Mt Marcy is a producer I found on soundcloud (yo fuck you soundcloud...unrelated but everyone hates you) that is incredibly talented. Blvnt Records is like a deeper underground version of Stones Throw that could take an entire day of yours and fill it with new music. Mt Marcy's instrumentals are always so beautiful and the boom bap nature of it all makes for perfect summer tunes.

Yung Gutted - Internet Graveyard III

Yung Gutted has worked with NYC based rappers for years. The man has unknowingly been my introduction to artists like Wiki, Jaguar Pyramids, and Antwon and is supplying production that is flat out incomparable to anyone else. On top of hip-hop production, Gutted has club prepared BANGERS on his soundcloud. Peep this tape and then surf around his stuff.

Ase Manual - Gems (LIKE THAT RECS)

Inventive, Interesting, Local. I LOVED Ase Manuals new project. Another one of Jerseys talents making music that pushes boundaries. Affiliated with Jersey Gods and Goddesses like Uniique and Gianni Lee, Ase has his hand in some of the best music coming out of Jersey and some of the best parties being thrown in the Tri-State area. Share this shit.
