Fools Gold Day Off Preview
It doesn't seem to get said that often, but it's hard to deny that Fools Gold has been at the epicenter of the NYC music scene since it was born in 2007. I discovered Fools Gold in 2009, taking trains into the city to see Nick Catchdubs and A-trak play sweaty basement parties while we whispered about who might show up.
Fools Gold has consistently surrounded themselves with that energy. What will happen next? Who is showing up? Is that Cudi? Is that Reggie Watts?
What set Fools Gold apart from other genre curious labels is its dedication to being 'for the people.' A-Trak and the gang have been incredible at keeping shows with the biggest names in music (past and present) as intimate as possible.
This year has some awesome acts top to bottom and I wanted to highlight some of them before we go nuts this weekend.
EauxZown is the Co-founder of the number one party crew in NY, Brunch Bounce. A "Real DJ" (as A-Trak would say), EauxZown has made a name for himself over the past few years performing along side acts like Diplo, Flosstradamus, DJ Snake, and plenty of others at parties he and the Brunch Bounce family put together. Putting on for Uptown, EauxZown embodies New York's range of culture by being one of the best crowd readers in the DJ scene.
You can turn on Viceland and see Meyhem Lauren whenever you want. Close friend of Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren reps Queens to the fullest with nostalgic flow and a regal air. Truthfully...Meyhem doesn't exactly have HITS but his personality, beat selection, and bars fit in perfectly with the flow of a Fools Gold performance. Expect Meyhem to get you diddy bopping and potentially call out Action for a suprise guest? those guys always seem to support one another.
A-Trak said on Hot 97 he was eager to get Dave East and Juelz on the same stage because of what it would mean to Harlem. If you haven't heard Dave East yet you are missing out. The man is the New York hip hop that your grumpy ass uncle swears nobody is making anymore. Bar on top of Bar. He has a bobby shmurda remix I pray he plays.
Co-Creator of Fools Gold, Nick Catchdubs is the man with his finger on the pulse. Scrolling through his soundcloud helps remind me of the waves of sound through NY over the past 10 years. He has worked with everyone, he has played with everyone, he has been everywhere. He and A-Trak are walking music history.
If you haven't heard of Lil Yachty you must not have a twitter account. Lil Yachty is the shit. Lil boat aka RD aka Lil Yachty the god. If you don't like him you're an old man. Wake up. YACHTY. Wooo. Ok. Seriously tho. I will be bugging during this. This kid has caught fire over the last year and is fully taking off. Support the youth.
Hot take - this remix is drakes best song. Migos is going to tear it down. Somehow managing to be some of the veterans on this lineup, Migos will be performing in NY all together again. Crazy excited for what they might have planned for a headline set. They have so many hits, you can expect to hear half of em.
This is going to be STUPID.
A-Traks set could have legit anything happen. He could go hard with his old hits. Take us on a trip down memory lane. He could reunite Duck Sauce. Probably not but that would be incredible. He could have called in an old favor and have Kanye show up for the culture. Probably not though? Maybe he will have his brother show up. Surprise Chromeo set wouldn't be half bad. . . but that's the point. You don't know what is going to happen, you just know that anything could.
See you there.
